It was dirty, smelled like cigarettes and the walls had humidity
Out of date! Needs major interior and exterior rennovation
We stayed at the Pan American Hotel for one night due to the fact that we had a very early morning flight out of New York and didn't relish battling ny traffic. The Pan American Hotel is located extremely close to the airport and provides a shuttle service for $10 which seems very fair. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is going to have an early morning flight as being a very good option. Unfortunately it does appear to be off the beaten track with nothing of any interest in the vicinity. We went out on a search for restaurants but the locality is very boring and the only restaurant is the one in the hotel. However, considering the lower cost of this hotel, it would be a good option for someone on a budget who is visiting New York. If they bought a travel pass for 7 days they'd be able to save on train fares.
Location - Safety -
1- Charges for shuttle to the airport. Should be a courtesy service. Also, the same shuttle goes to La Guardia and to jfk airports. Why not having one shuttle to each airport at different time? 2.- Air conditioner in the room was noisy.
Room was modern and up to date. Staff was friendly and very willing to help. Free parking was on site which is a huge plus in New York City. Also hotel is conveniently located near the airport.
My only complaint about this hotel is the door from the parking lot was locked so I had to walk all around to the front of the hotel with all my luggage. Easy fix that I know will be addressed.
Staff was very family-like. The people who picked me up and dropped me off at the airport were very polite and clearly worked at the hotel and know all of the staff there. They got my bags in and out and made good conversation.
Lighting in the room was dark. Limited amenities for bathroom.
everyone was helpful, friendly, informative. ease of distance to subway was great. the consierge had very quick and correct answers to all of my direction questions. we had to remain in the lobby for 2 hours--and our car in the lot--because my child became ill the night before; this was no problem. we had a change in travelers at the last minute, and the hotel was accomodating in changing my request of room choice. because we had a queen room, their was extra space for a pleasant-sized seating area. i would definitely do a repeat stay, and i recommend this hotel to others.
the only complaint is the city traffic noises which we are not accustomed to hearing when going to sleep. however, after full days of NYC exploring, sleeping was never an issue.
Close to everywhere, the lobby,
Hotel needs upgrades or renovations.
The bed is very soft, need as little bit renovation in the bathroom
Late checkout quiet room clean
Service great in restaurant but food very mediocre
The very good response from hotel employees
Restaurant staff & housekeeping were very polite and nice.
Cramped rooms, incorrigible Conceirge desk
Perfect location! Close to both jfk and Laguardia Airports with a 24 hour shuttle service. Also situated close to Grand Avenue subway station wich is a short subway ride to Manhattan. Staff very friendly with fantastic knowledge of the city and surrounding areas. The city tour that was recommended by the bell captain at the hotel is an absolute must for sightseeing!
I was very disappointed in the standard of this hotel. The room was awful. The door could not be secured properly. the bedside lamp did not work, the food in the diner was greasy and low quality. What I found most disappointing was the fact that in this day and age, the rooms did not have free WiFi. The only hot spot was located in a small section of the lobby, where everyone congregated. This area was not private and very close to the road. This was not acceptable. Additionally, it took the supposed free van three hours to collect my young teenage daughter from the airport after she arrived and phone in for collection. Unacceptable! I stayed one night of the six scheduled nights. I could not wait to get out of this dump after the first night. Never Again! Perhaps the photo on the website needs to be revised to reflect the true condition of this place. The outside environment is dirty and grungy. Quite frankly, I wish I could get a refund for the one night I did spend there.
My husband and I chose this hotel because it is inexpensive, an easy subway trip to Manhattan and free parking. The people who work there are most often friendly and helpful. This was our second trip to this hotel and we'll stay here again.
The only thing about our room this time is that, although it was clean for the most part, there was some layered dust around the edges of the room (the carpet next to the wall and on the tiles in the bathroom.) And...although this is something the hotel can't change, but there is a dance club next door with loud music until 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning.
